Our Indian Air technician got called out to a home in Chino Valley, AZ because their unit wasn’t cooling the house and was making a lot of noise. When our technician arrived, he instantly spotted the problem.
The homeowners built this awning in order to give their dog some shade. Little did they know the problems this would cause their air conditioning unit. They had to spend over a thousand dollars to replace their compressor.
You see, an air conditioner is designed to take the heat out of your house. That heat escapes through your outdoor unit. If that hot discharged air has nowhere to go, it will recirculate back into the unit and cause high head pressure which leads to numerous problems. Your unit will then be forced to work harder, less efficiently, cost more money to run, and can eventually burn out the compressor as it did in this situation.
An air conditioning outdoor unit needs to have clearance to blow the hot air straight up and out. The sides of the unit also need clearance to draw air in.
Take this as a lesson to you and check with our highly skilled HVAC technicians at Indian Air before you try to enclose your unit in anyway.
