In order to keep your heating and cooling system up and running efficiently for longer, you need to do a few things. On of the most important things you can do is easy- just clean and replace your filters every month. Some are designed to be cleaned and others are disposable. The filters are located inside the return air grille. It looks like a big register or vent. They are commonly located in a hallway or in the ceiling. Sometimes, the filters are located under a unit in a service closet in the house.
Another thing is to make sure that your house is sealed & insulated. An air conditioner is designed to remove heat from your house, but the more heat that is allowed in, the harder your system has to work. Make sure to have window coverings, screens, drapes, and/or shutters installed. This helps keep unwanted sunlight (heat) out.
And finally, you should have your units maintained twice a year. A heating/cooling unit is a lot like a car in this sense. Just as a car needs tires, oil changes, coolant, etc., your heating and cooling units need to be serviced and maintained as well. There is a lot of intricate moving parts and a lot could go wrong. If you need to have your unit maintanced, please give us a call at Indian Air. We also offer Energy Savings Plans (ESPs).
